Gujrati Pom Pom

Though  the rage of pom pom slippers started from the west last year, a pom pom slipper became a must buy item for every foreign women who loves her footwear but their is no undenying fact the handicrafts of mirror and pom poms always hailed from Gujarat. The textile handicraft of Gujarat is believed to have originated and evolved from the age-old tradition of decorating mud-walled houses with murals and terracotta designs in the rural areas of Kutch.

The most spectacular textile based handicraft of Gujarat is needlework or embroidery, a chief source of living for thousands of artisans in the state. Gujrati embroidery is a woman-based handiwork that is known for elegance, delicacy and splendor and riot of colours all over the world. Gujrati embroidery is sure to be found in every Indian household. Toran, keychains, pillow covers and bedsheets are some of the embroidered items which are the sold worldwide.

Kutch embroidery purses, bags and mirrors with hanging pom pom’s is common sight in Janpath, Newdelhi and also at the Art & Craft exhibitions and Melas all over the country. Gujrati women wear colourful Ghaghariya Choli embroidered with kutch thread work and pom pom's during the celebration of navratra even the chappals have pom pom stitched on them as you can see in the slippers that  I am wearing.

I purchased these pom pom mirror slippers from one the local vendors in Green Park Main Market, New Delhi they costed me Rs 399/- a pair and thats not a bad deal at all, its made out of faux leather. I do not buy leather this was a better pair for me. They are suitable to be worn with ethnic or western wear. Just a get good pedicure done, I think these chappals will add a lot of colour to your diwali wardrobe. I highly recommend that you should buy a pair like these as well!!
